It seems to me that the number of new members has tripled. Although a lot of Oxygen Fitness members have left out of frustration, I am finding myself constantly waiting for equipment, or not finding room to stretch. AT times I have only a half hour to work out, and find myself waiting 15 minutes for a treadmill, or not getting one at all. I'm wondering why I am a member at a gym that I can hardly use!

Also, many of the new members don't clean up after themselves, and constanly leave their equipment (weights, balls, mats) behind when they are done.

Myself and many of my friends find we just don't go as often as we used to, and as often as we'd like or need to, because we know how busy it will be when we get there, with less equipment and less space to work in!

Mad i agree we are too crowded . it is unhealthy for us to be exersizing so close together as there isnt enough air for all that carbon dioxide and sweat. there are also too many machines piled on the top floor. one trainer told me that an engineer who exersizes there said it may fall through . even if this is a long shot it still sits on my mind when i use the treadmill up there. what is going on ??

I have to admit, I am get very anxious about going to my gym now, after 7 years. Sometimes it's sooooooo busy there, I literally cannot walk on the main floor, without havign to stand aside, dodge people. gawd forbid I should like to use a piece of equipment for myself, or use one piece right after another, not going to happen. If I have a workout plan for that day, I find I just can't follow it anymore because I can't get to the equipment, or the space, I need when I need it. Frustrating. thanks for ruining my gym Extreme. Bally's members beware! This is coming to your gym soon!

Extreme Fitness is not in the fitness business but in the membership business.

I live in the neighbourhood and not a week goes by without a flyer in my mailbox.

Way to ruin a great neighhbourhood facility.

Riverdale Fitness here I come when my membership expires!

I was there yesterday, and it occurred to me that it seemed more like Bay and King St, than the Danforth (in terms of the bustle and the crowds), but instead of professionals, it's more like slack-jaw 905ers, no offense.
I've overheard conversations in the change rooms between guys with mullets, calling each other "Fag" -- a hate term officially -- talking about beating up some guy for chasing his girlfriend. Hello, Riverdale has the 2nd highest per capita popluation of lesbian and gays in Toronto,, a little insensitive!! These are the types of guys who don't belong in the dignified halls of Danforth establishments. Yet Extreme is coralling them in like cattle. This is the type of people now overcrowding our gym. obviously Extreme doesn't give it's new members any etiquette training whatsoever,,, but the need it badly.;

Etiquette training?

Hahahahaha.

I had to move 10 -- 10!!! -- 45 pound plates off the leg press machine tonight. When I asked the oaf who put them there to help me, he looked at me like I was out of my mind.

Albert:I've been at this gym for many years (used to be Oxygen Fitness). It was a nice neighbourhood gym. Now it's a very commercial enterprise, full of staff trying to make a sale. The gym is now overcrowded with people taking advantage of free/cheap promotional rates, and the full-paying members must bear the brunt of this. The best lockers are used by the staff, the equipment is badly spread out (make it dangerous to walk around), the cardio machines are rarely free... it's become a nightmare.

Extreme Fitness Vice-president Taso Pappas:

Quote:
The former Oxygen club is overcrowded, he agreed, but ongoing renovations will add space. And members can visit other Extreme Fitness clubs without extra cost.

At least he admits that the Danforth location is overcrowded. His email address is: tasop@extremefitness.info .

However, according to Extreme Fitness Danforth staff, I am NOT entitled to visit other Extreme Fitness locations. That statement is false and misleading. Someone is not telling the truth. Is this consonant with anyone else's personal experience?

Please let me know if there are any other former Oxygen members denied access to their other clubs. Or if there are new Extreme members who had to pay extra, or were asked to pay extra for access to their other clubs. Thanks.

Don't forget, the brochures specifically print the Danforth address but boast of the other locations!

Hi, I joined this "&?%$#" gym in July. The offer was $19 for the first two months and each following months at $55.97, incl. taxes. This amount allows me to go to other locations (I have done so without problem). In the Star article, the vice-president Taso Pappas says member can visit other Extreme Fitness clubs without extra cost. Does this mean that if you pay $19 or $55 a month, you can go everywhere? Why am I paying $55? I noticed a sheet at the reception desk indicating that members can go to other locations.

Interestingly, this sheet popped up this week, after the Star article. It invites members to visit other locations -- and it lists them -- during the renovations. There is nothing about any cost or limitations to this invitation.

Hi,

You won't believe this. I went to the 111 Wellington Street gym tonight. After giving your card to the nice receptionist, you take the elevator to go to the 4th floor to the women's lockers (men are on the 2nd floor). You have walls of towels at your disposition. There is a towel chute. You have tons of lockers. On each vanity, you have wrapped rasors, shaving cream, mouthwash, paper cups, again at your disposition. In the shower, you have a little step where you can put your leg while shaving. You also have a sauna and a hot tub/jacuzzi (I don't know the difference). You also have a direct access to a studio where you have all kind of classes all day long. On the 3rd floor, you have a cadio area, a weight training area where all the weights are at their place. You even have a squash court. On the 5th floor, there is another studio for classes, but I did not go. I felt like I was at the spa. I am going back.

Ciao!

Great. Nice to hear. Fabulosity!

If you want to drive/park or take the subway to 111 Wellington instead of walking, jogging or pushing the baby stroller from home.
