Today I walked by the construction site and had a peek inside the front door. A good long peek. There is a giant square hole in the floor in the front. A couple of workmen. Not much else.
Something about it all is making me nervous.
The building used to be a movie theatre way back when. Then it was a combination of nightclubs and restaurants, the latter I am convinced were money-laundering operations. (Don't ask.) I highly doubt that the front of the building as a giant open space was ever such. This is just speculation on my part.
But I am starting to get more and more nervous. |

i phoned the dept. of public health today and lodged a complaint about there being too many women for 2 toilets. i believe tht is an offence to public health. i suggest we all phone them and complain. they said they would look into it. the woman who answered the phone said her son went through this reno bs when he was going to a gymn too and it is very difficult. i think there needs to be a law that stops this kind of thing. no renovating while customers are on the premisis . it is too unhealthy . there need to be more rules about overcrowding . if there are rules then they should be enforced. we need to stop this ridiculous behaviour.
i have a question. if we keep going there even though we have these issues wont we just be asked well why didnt we leave. buyer beware ?
i need to work out and it is close and i want to workout htere but under better circumstances. is my answer . anyone else??? |

Gabby, please private message me and tell me to whom you complained and I will do the same.
As for keeping going, I paid in advance. My membership is fully paid up. |

You are complaining because you are going there. You are complaining because you want to go there, but there are serious issues not being addressed, yes? Keep going, keep complaining.
In my personal opinion, they have completely destroyed the character of the gym, to the point where I don't like going there like I used to. I had some hope that they would upgrade the place, but the deadlines have come and gone. I believe that a professional company would have waited until they were completely ready for construction, including all permits and zoning, all supplies, and the contractors, then had it all done within maybe a month, and over with. They would have offered apologies and done their best to address the daily issues of current members. If they are not going to open the front "hallway" on deadline, then fix the sauna, fix the washrooms, move the sales office out of the way so we can have our space back. What a disaster!!! |

I called them today as well. the city health department, they put me thr to public health. I got a chinese lady who didn't seem to want to talk to me. hoever, i filed the complaint. the main issues with me are the cleanliness of the men's washroom, esp the big unsanitary puddle as you walk in to the showers, and i wonder just how safe it is to have all those people jumping on treadmills on that catwalk stage while i'm working out below!!! Ijust want reassurance that is safe, sorry i just don't trust extreme fitness to tell me if it is or not. I also think there are way too many people in that space, that has to be a fire hazard if not a health hazard, which i hope they will determine for us. what else is there? I suppose we should mention that sometimes there are workers with equipment while we are working out, and the area is not roped off, hello, danger. You know, I think that guy who vacuums while we work out is a health threat too. First the air borne stuff from the vacuum while we are breathing heavily, and second that twisted cord running through the gym - someone is going to trip on that!
What did I miss? |

This is from the Ontario Ministry of Government Services, Consumer Portection Branch website:
| Quote: | Before You Contact Us
Before you contact the Ministry of Government Services to file a complaint, you need to take the following steps:
contact the business clearly outlining your complaint in writing;
keep proof of delivery of your complaint and any interaction with the business;
if you are unable to resolve the complaint with the company, contact the ministry.
Tips:
|
we all need to write a complaint directly to extreme if you haven't already. Does anyone know the right person, or at least , the right title to address this complaint letter to? Thankls |

Well, well ...
They did not have a building permit until September 4, 2007.
This means that, when they demolished the front entranceway and did who-knows-what to the stairs leading up to the women's locker room (and demolished that too, presumably), they did it without a permit.
I just got off the phone with the city building department.
The building was a split zone, commercial and residential, when it was bought. (That means that Oxygen was probably in violation too.)
On Jan. 30/07, there was an application for a preliminary zoning review.
In Feb., it went to the committe of adjustment for variances.
In May, there was an application for a building permit.
The permit, which is for alterations to all floors, including the basement, was issued just two weeks ago!!!
Draw your own conclusions.
The building inspector is Orville Grant. 416-338-0855. That's his direct line.
I urge you all to call him and ask him if the building is safe.
I will cross post this elsewhere. |
