I just replied to questions about Riverdale Fitness in the section called "Why I left Extreme Fitness", but I'll put a bit here too - for a more detailed description check the other section out.
Anyone who's been a member at Extreme knows that feeling you get when you walk in...it's the feeling that you are actually bothering the Staff! Not at Riverdale! It took only a couple of days before the Staff knew my name and greeted me with it when I came in! This is a really friendly, down to earth, CLEAN and well maintained 'Neighbourhood' gym (not the impersonal 'big box' style) One member told me that they've been going to that gym for 40 years - wow! Now that's a recommendation on it's own! They have a huge free weight section, Atlantis machines, and a well stocked cardio area - with NO time limits or sign up sheets. I paid $59.00 a month at Extreme to be treated like dirt - I pay only $39.99/month at Riverdale Fitness, and I'm treated with courtesy and respect!!
Riverdale Fitness is located on the Danforth, just before you get to Jones- it's above Blockbuster. I think it's '835 Danforth' (?) will check and if I'm wrong be back to update that. Their phone number is 416-406-1944 |

| I'd like to add my voice to the praise for Riverdale Fitness. I was a Jump member who went looking for a new gym after the buyout (there was no way, after one visit, I was staying at Extreme!) and found Riverdale. What impressed me the most was not the equipment, the cleanliness or the general atmosphere of the place (although those are all big plusses), it was the way everyone treated me like I belonged there. Shelley, the general manager, told me that Riverdale tries to cultivate a culture of friends, and I think they do a smashing job at it. Two days after I signed up, she sent me a card welcoming me to Riverdale and offering me a free smoothie at their smoothie bar. |

I second -- third? -- everything said above.
Riverdale is clean, bright, friendly, adult. (No homophobia either.)
While it doesn't have the amenities promised for months by Extreme, it's a pleasure to work out here.
P.S. I was on hold on the phone today with Extreme and listened to an endless loop talking about juice bars and lounges at Danforth that don't exist. _________________ http://thestar.blogs.com/broadsides |
