I keep hearing from people who go in for the "hard sell" at the Danforth location, things such as this: You get the $15 per month membership, and no contract, but only if you sign up for a year. But isn't that a contract? Or: you get x months free, and it said no contract, but you only get the x months free at the end of a year (ie contract). They don't use the word "contract" during the negotiations, but isn't that a contract? Now, I haven't gone in for the hard sell yet personally, so I can't say for certain this is what is happening, but if this resonates with anyone's experience, we would love to hear from you directly. (Or if you felt it was all straight forward, you could post here too.)
The flyer always says first 50 new members, is this true? Are there other inconsistencies?
The most obvious misleading factor in their advertising are the pictures. In their flyers, which I get sometimes twice a week, the pictures are of some beautiful, fully finished (and completely empty) club... somewhere. At the bottom of the ad, it says 635 Danforth Ave. THOSE PICTURES ON THE FLYER ARE NOT 635 DANFORTH AVE! Is this not false or misleading to the public?
Are there other ways they are misleading us with their advertisements, or in our contracts? Please, post, post, post.
In a recent Competition Tribunal Decision, Premier Fitness Clubs of Canada was forced to pay $200,000 for false and/or misleading advertising in their membership sales.
