You can register your phone number online at https://www.lnnte-dncl.gc.ca/insnum-regnum-eng
There are certain rules. For instance, you have to wait 31 days before your number is officially registered. During that time, you may not lodge a complaint. Also (from their site): Reminder: Even if your number is registered on the National DNCL, companies with which you have an existing business relationship may continue to call you. Charities, newspapers; political organizations, and telephone surveyors may also be exempt. To find out more about the National DNCL Rules, please visit the National Do Not Call List and Telemarketing Rules or refer to the Frequently Asked Questions.
But by existing business relationship, if you joined the "ex-club" and quite Extreme Fitness, your relationship is officially and legally over, and you may lodge a complaint against them for calling you at home for marketing purposes.
I would suggest that some of these marketing companies are misleading people by bending the rules. So if in doubt, lodge the complaint, and let them prove their position. |
